Beta

Customs, prices and search as an API and an MCP server

Plug landed cost calculation, customs rules with sources, VIN decoding and normalized search into your own systems or AI assistants. Beta: endpoints are still being built.

Beta: endpoints are being built and schemas may change before release.

Capabilities

What is in the API

REST API v1

  • Landed cost, market price, VIN decoding, listing search, customs rules, exchange rates
  • Everything behind an API key, with access scopes
  • Responses carry explanations and links to rule sources

MCP server

  • Seven tools for AI agents: calculation, price, VIN, search, rules, leads, deal status
  • Streamable HTTP with the same API key
  • Tool descriptions are written for LLMs: when to call and with which parameters

Webhooks

  • Deal, payment and document events
  • An HMAC signature to verify the sender

Keys and limits

  • Limits by plan; over the limit the response is 429 with a Retry-After header
  • A call counter and a usage report in Desk

OpenAPI and SDK

  • An OpenAPI 3.1 specification generated from validation schemas
  • Interactive Scalar documentation at /docs
  • A TypeScript SDK generated from the specification

Your company's data

  • Contacts, deals, stages, document generation, shipments
  • Writing needs separate write:deals access

Endpoints

REST API v1

The endpoint list follows the specification. Beta: paths and schemas may change before release; the final description will be in OpenAPI.

EndpointWhat it doesAccess
POST/v1/landed-costLanded cost with lines, explanations and sourcesAPI key
GET/v1/market-priceMarket price estimate by make, model, year and marketAPI key
GET/v1/vin/{vin}VIN decoding and known sales from the cacheAPI key
GET/v1/listings/searchNormalized search across sources (Scout)API key
GET/v1/rules/{country}Current customs rules of a country with sourcesAPI key
GET/v1/fxExchange ratesAPI key
POST/v1/contactsCreate and manage contactswrite:deals
POST/v1/dealsCreate and read dealswrite:deals
POST/v1/deals/{id}/stageChange a deal's stagewrite:deals
POST/v1/documents/generateGenerate a document from a templatewrite:deals
POST/v1/shipmentsShipments and trackingwrite:deals

Every call needs an API key. Limits depend on the plan.

Example

A landed cost request

The request body is the same input the core calculator accepts. Below is the real result of that calculation.

Request

curl -X POST "$IMPORTOS_API/v1/landed-cost" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $IMPORTOS_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"lot_price":8000,"auction":"copart","vehicle":{"vin":"4T1B11HK5JU000001","year":2018,"fuel":"petrol","engine_cc":2487,"damage":"FRONT END"},"from":{"auction_yard":"NJ - TRENTON"},"to":{"country":"PL"},"fee_model":{"model":"fixed","amount":700,"currency":"USD"},"target_currency":"USD","date":"2026-10-17"}'

Response (abridged)total: $20,958

{
  "country": "PL",
  "currency": "USD",
  "total": 20957.7,
  "items": [
    {
      "kind": "lot_price",
      "code": "lot_price",
      "amountInTarget": 8000,
      "verified": true
    },
    {
      "kind": "auction_fee",
      "code": "copart.fees",
      "amountInTarget": 1210,
      "verified": true
    },
    {
      "kind": "inland_us",
      "code": "inland_us",
      "amountInTarget": 250,
      "verified": true
    }
  ],
  "...": "+12",
  "warnings": "[4]",
  "rulesVersion": "PL@2026-07-01",
  "confidence": 0.73
}

The endpoint's response envelope may differ: final schemas will be in OpenAPI. The calculation ran on demo exchange rates and typical tariffs.

MCP

Connect ImportOS to an AI assistant

The MCP server is available with the same API key. These are the tools an assistant will see.

calculate_landed_cost

Calculates a car's landed cost in the destination country. Call it when you need the full import price of a specific lot.

estimate_market_price

Estimates the market price of similar cars. Call it to judge resale margin.

decode_vin

Decodes a VIN and returns known sales from the cache.

search_listings

Searches listings across connected sources in a normalized form.

get_customs_rules

Returns a country's current customs rules with links to sources.

create_lead

Creates a lead in Desk. For sales agents that talk to clients.

get_deal_status

Returns a deal's status for a client-facing assistant.

The server address and a configuration example for MCP clients will appear with the release; we will also add files for MCP directories.

Webhooks

Events you can subscribe to

Every request is signed with HMAC so you can verify the sender.

  • deal.stage_changed
  • payment.received
  • document.signed

API plans

Separate plans for developers

Preliminary terms from the specification; final plans and prices will be confirmed before release.

Free

Free

100 calls per month

Dev

$49 / mo

10,000 calls per month

Business

$199 / mo

100,000 calls per month

Usage-based billing applies above a plan's limit. The API is also included in the ImportOS Business plan.

How it works

How to start

  1. 1

    Get a key

    Generate an API key in Desk, in the API settings.

  2. 2

    Make a request

    Call a REST endpoint or connect the MCP server to your assistant.

  3. 3

    Subscribe to events

    Set up webhooks and verify the HMAC signature.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the API production-ready?

No, it is a beta: endpoints are still being built and schemas may change. Do not build critical processes on it before release.

Are there limits?

Yes, limits depend on the plan. Over the limit the server responds with 429 and a Retry-After header.

Where does /v1/rules data come from?

From the same dated rules the calculator uses; every parameter has a link to its source and a flag showing whether an official source confirms it.

Plug calculations into your own systems

The API is included in Business ($199 a month); a separate developer plan is also planned.
